Zen Lesson # 5: Home Construction is a Process, not a product

This is a key point missed by most homeowners and many construction professionals as well: A home construction project is more of a PROCESS than it is a PRODUCT.

I tell my contractor coaching clients this all of the time because they are so focused on the final product and making sure that it looks terrific but they don’t pay enough attention to the process which is just as important to the homeowner.

A Homeowner often judges

the success of a project by focusing on

the construction PROCESS

rather than the final PRODUCT

That’s because a homeowner often judges the success of a project by focusing on ## the construction process ## rather than the final product. For those of you that have had bad experiences with a home construction project-- if you go back and look at the problems, you’ll probably see that the problems had more to do with the process than the final product. Most builders are so focused on their product, so focused on getting the kitchen to look terrific or to get every detail right in the home, that they ignore the process and didn’t build a rapport with the homeowner.

When you look at Home Construction as a Process, not a product you will start to take the thirty-foot view which allows you to see opportunities to improve collaboration with your entire construction team.
